Feels Like we Only Go Backwards

“Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” is a song off of Tame Impala’s 2012 album, Lonerism. It is the most streamed song on the album, gaining nearly 194,000,000 streams on Spotify. “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” shows Parker’s use of drums, guitar, and bass throughout the song. This is typical of his music in Innerspeaker and Lonerism, but this say a diminished role in his later albums.

'Cause I'm a Man

“‘Cause I’m a Man” was Tame Impala’s second single off of the album, Currents. It received  high praise, receiving high ratings from Pitchfork. This song relies heavily on drum, bass, and synthesizers for the instrumental, a change from Innerspeaker and Lonerism. The song focuses on how no matter how hard Parker tries to be a better person, he is only a man, so he constantly makes the same mistakes. This same theme was also used on the final track of Currents, “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”.

Patience

“Patience” is a single from Tame Impala that was released in March of 2019. It was part of a series of singles that were released for his new album, The Slow Rush. Although the song was eventually not on The Slow Rush, Parker performed it during his tour at places like Coachella and on Saturday Night Live. The song features a prominent piano, drums, bass, and guitar. “Patience” talks about time and how long it has been since Parker has released music under the Tame Impala name, while also introducing the theme of time for his new album.
